Eles vão estar à conversa com historiadores sobre diferentes temas relacionados com a história da Escócia e vão viajar pelo país via terra, mar e ar.

A história dos clãs mais conhecidos da Escócia e a importância do kilt

Num destes episódios vai ser retratado a importância dos clãs para o país e o significado dos seus símbolos que continuam a ser importantes para a cultura da Escócia que conhecemos até ao dia de hoje. Existiram um número diferente de clãs que tiveram um passado difícil e conturbado entre si, em que houve violência, sangue, conflitos, e muito mais. Assim, podemos conhecer melhor a história de cada um destes clãs, as suas rivalidades e disputas e o palco de grandes massacres.  

O kilt é um dos principais símbolos da Escócia que é um tipo de saia de lã com padrão aos quadrados que é usada com frequência pelos homens, sendo que cada clã tinha um bem específico. Depois temos os tartans que é um design típico e icónico em xadrez que tem um significado específico em que cada clã tem os seus próprios padrões e com determinadas cores exclusivas. Uma coisa é garantida, iremos ver numa vez ou outra, o Sam Heughan e o Graham McTavish vestidos com o kilt.

A comida, a música, a dança e os desportos bem típicos da Escócia

Falemos do primeiro episódio em que não vai faltar comida e bebida típica da Escócia, seja provar e apreciar a sua gastronomia num dos restaurantes locais da cidade de Edimburgo, ir à pesca de marisco e cozinhando-o com a ajuda de um chef ou mesmo visitar uma destilaria para aprendermos mais sobre a produção do whisky escocês, um dos mais famosos a nível mundial.

Temos um episódio nos quais são explorados os desportos bem característicos, mais conhecidos e bem icónicos deste país, seja o levantamento do peso, o lançamento do martelo, o rugby ou o golf. Eles vão praticá-los e vão competir entre si e quem perder tem uma consequência não muito agradável para colocar em prática, sendo que para um deles será um final gelado. É-nos apresentado uma visão bem peculiar de como a música e a dança são tão importantes para a Escócia. Nós não conseguimos imaginar este país sem estas duas temáticas, em que podemos acompanhar festas e reuniões nas Terras Altas que vão tendo a sua dança e música bem típica que até dá vontade de estar lá presente pessoalmente.

No mundo da dança, existem vários tipos em que a pessoa pode aprender. Na Escócia existem aquelas danças que são bem características que neste caso em específico têm espadas pelo meio e até são bem difíceis de aprender. Com esta dança sobre espadas, as pessoas acreditavam que se podia prever o futuro de um soldado numa determinada batalha ou seja, colocando duas espadas em cruz e se o homem tocasse numa das lâminas significava que ia ficar ferido, mas se desse um pontapé queria dizer que morria. Por isso, uma dançarina ensina a Sam e Graham como colocar tudo isto em prática que não é nada fácil de se realizar, pois deu para ver o quanto esta dupla estava atrapalhada, enquanto se movimentavam sob as espadas.

A história da Escócia não seria a mesma coisa sem a presença da famosa gaita-de-foles que é um dos principais símbolos da cultura deste país. Ficamos a saber mais sobre como este instrumento começou a fazer parte da cultura escocesa e o papel fundamental que tinha no campo de batalha, criando intimidação e medo para o inimigo.

Superstições, magia, bruxaria e mitos

A Escócia é dos países que tem mais superstições, sendo que não vão faltar visitas a cemitérios, igrejas ou outros lugares, pois existem locais bem assustadores, onde num deles, uma historiadora conta acontecimentos bem estranhos que sucederam no passado que deixam qualquer um a pensar.

Também podemos aprender mais sobre a bruxaria, através dos conhecimentos de um perito em bruxas que mostra a Sam e Graham, todas as ferramentas que eram utilizadas para a tortura de pessoas suspeitas de bruxaria que eram bem dolorosas e desconfortáveis.

Um dos mitos mais famosos deste país está relacionado com o monstro que vive supostamente no Lago Ness e claro que a viagem de Sam e Graham tinha de incluir explorar aquelas águas num barco.

O campo de batalha em Culloden

Um dos eventos históricos mais cruciais e importantes da história da Escócia foi a Batalha de Culloden em 1746 que levou à morte de milhares de jacobitas em muito pouco tempo depois da mesma ter começado, deixando assim, uma marca na história do país que nunca será esquecida. Esta foi uma batalha que foi muito focada em Outlander e que apresentou esta luta sangrenta ao pormenor, sendo que foi filmada no campo de batalha exato onde tudo aconteceu na realidade. Será que a personagem de Sam Heughan, James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser participou nesta batalha, tal como sucedeu na série? É algo que vão ter de esperar para ver!

Em Men in Kilts foram surgindo sequências de flashbacks simultâneos da Batalha de Culloden mostrada em Outlander, ao mesmo tempo que contavam como tudo aconteceu e na minha opinião é das partes mais cativantes desta série documental. Através de um historiador, temos a oportunidade de conhecer melhor os acontecimentos que ocorreram neste evento emblemático em que os jacobitas lutaram contra o exército britânico e as consequências que trouxe para as tradições escocesas, tais como as pessoas deixarem de ter a possibilidade de falar gaélico ou de usar tartan e até mesmo a proibição de tocar gaita-de-foles.

Para além disso é feita uma demonstração bem interessante de alguns movimentos de luta que podiam muito bem ter sido utilizados pelos jacobitas no dia desta batalha inevitável. Profissionais da área explicam como funcionam as armas que foram utilizadas naquela altura e a velocidade ou tempo que era necessário para que se pudesse recarregar as mesmas.

Locais históricos utilizados para filmagens de séries e filmes

Men in Kilts tem uma ótima banda sonora e foi algo que nunca imaginámos que pudesse vir a acontecer, mas que acabou por suceder numa roadtrip pela Escócia, um país muito bonito que tem sempre muito para conhecer e ainda bem que existiu esta série documental com um pouco de comédia pelo meio e terminando alguns episódios com uma boa dose de whisky. Esta é uma boa aposta que apresentou alguns momentos que acabam por deixar o público a pensar nos acontecimentos que tiveram de surgir para que a Escócia chegasse ao que é atualmente e que fizeram toda a diferença na história do país.
